GEI Breakout Session: Saving the World Begins at Breakfast
Host: Mark Laurie, NCASS (UK)
Presented by: NCASS
Around a quarter of all GHGs globally are generated by the food sector, which poses both an opportunity and a significant threat. If we change our habits, we can make a major impact on climate change, but as we hurtle towards the point of no return – is change happening?
In this session, based loosely on the book We Are the Weather: Saving the Planet Begins at Breakfast by Jonathan Safran Foer, we will discuss what decisions are within our power, and why we are all responsible for our decisions and bringing about the changes we want to see.
We will examine the best high-impact/low-cost practical changes that can and should be implemented at our events with immediate effect in order to combat climate change, and what structural problems within the food sector might take time and pressure to resolve. When it comes to protecting our planet, we can’t afford to be afraid of bold action.
