If I Could Turn Back Time: The Wider Impact of Current Stage Production, Design & Décor

If I Could Turn Back Time: The Wider Impact of Current Stage Production, Design & Décor

Location: Room 1

Chaired by: Coralie Berael, Forest National, Sportpalais Group (BE)

It seems that the sky’s the limit when it comes to stage production design. Anything and everything is possible. But as productions keep getting larger but venue sizes remain the same, anything from available build/break/transport time to height-and-weight restrictions can often throw a spanner in the design works that looked so good on paper.

Video screens have replaced more static sets, and technological advancements have resulted in lighter, higher quality screens that are easier to tour. Yet, when the majority of the set turns into more screens than before, all needing to be safely transported and installed, new challenges arise.

In this session, we will be looking at just how technology has changed show production over the past couple of decades, and how the industry has adapted. We will look at changes in audio, lighting, special effects, pyro and new effects such as holograms. And we will be asking those working with (not selling) these new technologies to share their practical experience and best practice.

Panellists:

Mark Ager, TAIT (UK)
