The Challenges of Expanding Markets: Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Asia
Location: Room 1
Chaired by: Roger Barrett, Star Live (UK)
Exciting as it is to tour expanding markets, more and more production specialists are flagging up the challenges encountered in touring these regions. Customs issues play a large part, of course. First and foremost, there’s the insecurity: will they let us in (or out)? If so, when? Unpredictable holdups at the border put a strain on the time available to build/break in a safe way.
Secondly, due to the increase in large shows in Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia, local production and security crews are now being trained, although only in small numbers. How can we hold on to and increase levels of trained staff? What opportunities are there for sharing best practice, and how do we get governments to apply the appropriate legislation? How can we solve the most basic issues of communication? Are we right in thinking it is only the West that has all the answers? Together we are looking for solutions.
All these questions and more will be addressed in the first panel of IPM 13.
